Wood Maintenance and Refurbishment
The wood (usually red pine, spruce, poplar, etc.) is the soul of a sauna room.
Avoid Chemical Coatings: Never use varnishes, paints, or ordinary wood preservatives in a sauna. These chemicals will evaporate at high temperatures, posing a health hazard.
Special Protective Agents: If the wood feels too dry or shows signs of cracking, you can use sauna wax specifically designed for saunas. This forms a protective film on the wood surface, preventing moisture from penetrating too quickly. However, it is recommended to consult the brand before use, as some people prefer the unadulterated feel of natural wood.
Refurbishment and Sanding: After years of use, if the seat surface becomes rough or dark in color, you can use a sander or sandpaper to sand the entire surface to remove the surface layer and expose the fresh, clean wood underneath. Remember to vacuum up the sawdust after sanding.
